MIPS Technologies Licenses Genesys Logic of Taiwan Cores and System Controller for Use in High-Speed SOCs
License will Enable Genesys Logic to Couple On-Chip Processing
With High-Speed I/O
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. & TAIPEI, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 8,
2003--
MIPS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MIPS, MIPSB) and Genesys Logic, a
pioneer in USB technology, today announced that Genesys Logic has
taken a license for the MIPS32(TM) 4Kc(TM) and 4Kp(TM) processor cores
and the SOC-it(TM) system controller. Genesys Logic will use the
high-performance technologies to develop more sophisticated 32-bit SOC
designs including SOHO gateways and networking storage devices.
The MIPS(R) 4K cores provide SOC designers with superior
performance while enabling high system-level throughput using an
optimized interconnect such as the SOC-it system controller. The
SOC-it system controller is ideal for use in applications requiring
high data rates such as networking applications and multimedia chips.
"Genesys Logic chose the industry-standard MIPS architecture to
obtain the best CPU core technology and to incorporate more features
into our designs without increasing customers' overall cost," said
Forster Shih, president and CEO of Genesys Logic. "Our competitive
advantage in the highly competitive SOC market is our proprietary
interface IP, such as PHY and DSP for USB 2.0 and IEEE.1394 high speed
controllers. By taking a license for MIPS cores, Genesys Logic is now
able to achieve full SOC integration and offer future-proof SOHO
gateways and networking storage products for the fast-growing market."
"The MIPS architecture is well-recognized by leading companies
within the networking and digital consumer markets as the architecture
of choice for performance-driven designs," said Jack Browne, vice
president of worldwide sales at MIPS Technologies. "By basing their
designs upon an industry standard, peripheral I/O technology providers
such as Genesys Logic benefit by leveraging MIPS' array of processor,
system-level and software products to broaden their product line and
market reach while reducing overall development costs. We welcome
Genesys Logic to the MIPS family."
